The Buchan
- Machnyikova House
The house
was built in the late 1800's and had been renovated and updated
in the past. There was a 3-season back addition that was removed
and then incorporated into the new kitchen. Also a new bathroom
was put in and a general renovation was done to the house.
Challenges:
- The project had to remove the back addition by first take away
solid masonry wall, put in new steel beams for support, then broke
up the cement floor to excavate to rock. This was rebuilt and insulated
to provide a new area open to the new kitchen area.
Design:
The new kitchen was designed by a combination of CADA in-house services,
Karhu Woodworking and the client.

The Manning
Residence
This is an
older home in Westboro for a family of five. They loved the neighbourhood
and wanted to stay in the house.
Challenges:
- This house was originally a 1-1/2 story house. CADA took off the
full upper level and made it into a 2 story with full story addition
on the rear. The living room and a front study were the only rooms
left in-tact and the rest was completely rebuilt.

The Thorne
Project
This was originally
a cottage that was converted into a modern, efficient, architecturally
well designed home.
Challenges:
- The main challenge of this project was dealing with tight time
frames and the fact that the original building was an old frame
cottage, whose support structure was rotting from the bottom up
and originally built on rock. First, the Cada team was faced with
hand excavating the under the structure to be able to replace
rotten sill plates and re-work the old foundation with the new support
structure for the addition. Being an older structure also presented
the team with lots of unforeseen challenges whose solutions were
worked through with the owners and the architect and delivered on
time and budget for the customer.

The Revelstoke
Project
This home was
originally a bungalow was turned into a two story, family home.
Challenges:
- The original bungalow had beautiful plaster ceilings with cove
mouldings that had to be integrated into the new design. When we
were all finished tearing the whole roof off and putting a full
second floor on, with new floor joists, plumbing and heating, the
plaster ceilings and other features of the original building were
preserved. The Cada team took a creative approach and had respect
for the owner's needs. The owners have continued to rely on Cada
for numerous smaller changes to their home over the intervening
4 years since the major renovation.
